The Idaho Supreme court said no to an emergency motion for stay in the execution of Thomas Creech.  Attorneys for Creech have already filed an appeal of yesterday’s decision. Right now, his execution date is set for November 13th.

A sentencing hearing was continued this week for a man who pleaded guilty in the November shooting death of a Twin Falls resident. 19-year-old Kaden Thomson had been scheduled to be sentenced Monday, but a delay occurred after new public defenders were assigned to him earlier this month. He admitted guilt to first-degree murder of Freddy Rodriguez.

In Idaho, the U.S. Marshals Service is searching for 42 Christian Bert Fischer who is wanted on an out-of-state warrant. Fischer was on trial in Florida for allegedly trying to lure a minor for sexual purposes when he fled and was tracked to northern Idaho. Fischer is described as a 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 200 pounds with blonde hair and hazel eyes. He is also known to dress like a woman.

Idaho is among 36 other states and Washington, D.C., that allows the use of campaign funds for childcare costs incurred while campaigning. The Idaho Secretary of State’s Office replied to a written inquiry from Democratic legislative candidate Trish Carter-Goodheart. The inquiry is a part of a larger effort from the Vote Mama Foundation to ensure candidates know they can use campaign funds for childcare costs incurred while campaigning.

The deadline to submit an absentee ballot request in Idaho for the Nov. 5 general election is tomorrow. Voters may request an absentee ballot online at www.VoteIdaho.gov until 5 pm.

Police in Idaho Falls are continuing their investigation into the death of a 50-year-old grandfather that was severely beaten and left to die on the sidewalk Saturday night. Bonneville County Coroner Rick Taylor has identified the deceased as Alejandro Paredas-Hurtado of Idaho Falls.

Where did all the lawyers go?  So far this month, there have been 1100 case withdrawals in Idaho. On October 1st, Idaho transitioned to a new public defense system consolidating 44 county-level state public defender’s offices into one statewide office. Now attorneys are resigning leaving many in Jail to remain there until a public defender can be assigned to their case. 

SPORTS

No. 17 Boise State is hoping to be singing “Viva Las Vegas” this weekend and may do just that if the Broncos are victorious tomorrow night at UNLV. The game, which will be televised live on CBS Sports Network, is set to kickoff at 8:30 p.m. MT at Allegiant Stadium. The matchup is highlighted by the expanded College Football Playoff, with the Broncos and Rebels battling for the bid guaranteed to the highest-ranked champion from a Group of Five conference.

Following a two-game skid, the Idaho State Bengals have a chance to bounce back this Saturday against the Sacramento State Hornets at home in the Minidome.  Idaho State is coming off of a heartbreaker at Northern Arizona that saw the Bengals come up just short In a 30-26 loss to the Lumberjacks. The Hornets are coming to Pocatello off of a 2OT thriller with Weber State where the Hornets held off a furious Wildcat comeback attempt for the win.

From Moscow, Idaho’s Redshirt freshman quarterback Jack Wagner has been named to the initial Stats Perform 2024 Jerry Rice Award Watch List Released by Stats Perform, yesterday.  Idaho is 5-1 in games started by Wagner. He has three ranked wins and a win over FBS Wyoming as a starter. He has played in every game for the Vandals this season, coming in for an injured Jack Layne in the season opener against Oregon.

Boise State’s standout running back isn’t just looking to rack up rushing yards, he’s also hoping to make a difference for future student-athletes.  A new scholarship, the Ashton Jeanty Endowed Scholarship for Football, has launched. The scholarship will go to future Boise State student-athletes and is funded by donations.  So far, the scholarship campaign has raised $45,000 as of our deadline. The donation campaign will be open for the next 51 days.

In local volleyball games, the Kimberly Bulldogs claimed its fourth straight Sawtooth Central Idaho Conference Volleyball Championship yesterday beating Filer at home.  Elsewhere Wood River ended Burley’s season 3 to 1.  For Volleyball today, Murtaugh and Shoshone play at CSI in Twin Falls, Declo and Soda Springs meet in malad, Twin Falls will host Wood River.  The Sun Valley Community School and Valley meet at CSI.  Hansen and Richfield meet in Dietrich.  Hagerman and Oakley play at CSI. 

On to today’s state tournament soccer schedule, first for the boys, Canyon Ridge and Rocky Mountain will play in Coeur d’Alene.  Moscow and Wood River travel to play at Bonneville and McCall Donnelly and the Sun Valley Community School will play at Real Life Fields in Post Falls.  Twin Falls and Vallivue travel to Bonneville while Weiser and Wendell meet in Post Falls. 

For the girls, Twin Falls and Pocatello travel to Hillcrest, Buhl and the Sun Valley Community School go to Post Falls.  Wood River and Lewiston head to Hillcrest.
