The Idaho Transportation Department will install a new traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. Highway 93 and State Highway 25 in Jerome. Construction is anticipated to begin this fall, in conjunction with work at US-93 and 300 South.

The first batch of absentee ballots for the general election that were sent out in Jerome had a printing error.  The title was missing on Proposition 1.  Ballots were mailed starting September 20th.  The county has corrected the error and is re-issuing ballots with the correct information and will track them to ensure only one will be counted per voter.

Police in Caldwell arrested 81-year-old Erwin Dahlke following a several hours long standoff with law enforcement Wednesday.  It started just before noon when the suspect was reported speeding in a neighborhood.  Police chased him into a home where the standoff didn’t end until about 5 after power was cut off at the home and tear gas and bean bag rounds were deployed.

The Department of Health and Welfare is issuing a health advisory for the west side of Henry’s Lake near Island Park, urging caution when recreating in or near the water.  Recent samples from the Henry’s Lake showed high amounts of toxin-producing cyanobacteria. The toxins they produce can be harmful to people, pets, and livestock.

The Pocatello Police Department responded to a house yesterday after receiving a tip of possible explosives and suspicious firearms inside the residence.  After obtaining a search warrant, officers entered the home and discovered several suspected pipe bombs and firearms.  At last check, police remain on the scene this morning safely removing the devices.

A 36-year-old former teacher was sentenced yesterday after admitting to sexually battering a teenage boy. Jessica Lawson was sentenced to a minimum of two years and a maximum of 20 years in prison. She will be required to register as a sex offender and attend sex offender treatment in prison, and when she is released on parole.

 

SPORTS

 

Back in action at home with a new title to boot, the 25th-ranked Boise State Broncos will welcome another sold out crowd to Albertsons Stadium tomorrow night as Washington State travels to the City of Trees.  Kickoff is set for 8 pm.

The CSI Men's soccer club looked to get back on track this upcoming road trip, but fell just short yesterday as they fell to USU-Eastern 2-1. Southern Idaho, now 2-4 in conference play, will try to get back on the winning side of things tomorrow, as they head to Ephraim to take on Snow College.

The CSI Women's soccer club dropped their second consecutive conference match as they lost 5-0 to USU-Eastern, yesterday afternoon. Southern Idaho, now 3-2-1 in conference play, gear up to take on #13 Snow College tomorrow.

More from women college soccer, Boise State's Carly Cross scored in the 55th minute to lift the Broncos to a 1-0 victory over host Fresno State in the Mountain West women's soccer opener for both schools yesterday.  The Broncos will travel to play San Jose State, Sunday at 1 p.m.

From the scoreboard, Boys High school Soccer games, it was Canyon Ridge 5 Rigby 0.  Twin Falls defeated Burley 2 to 1.  It was Mountain Home for the win over Jerome 3 to 2.  Wood River downed Minico 11 to 0. 

For the girls, it was Wood River 10 Minico 0.  Mountain Home 5 Jerome 1.  Twin Falls 4 Burley 0.  Canyon Ridge and Rigby tied it up with 1 each. 

For Volleyball, it was Butte County 3 Valley 0, Wood River 3 Minico 1.  Castleford for the win over Twin Falls Christian Academy 3 to 0.  Hagerman 3 Richfield 0.  Madison 3 Canyon Ridge 0.  Burley 3 Jerome 0. 

On the high school sports schedule first for football, Wood River is on the road to play Buhl, Hansen heads to Carey, Westside to Declo, Richfield plays Dietrich, Raft River travels to play Glenns Ferry, Canyon Ridge goes to Jerome, Filer goes to Marsh Valley, Burley to Minico Valley to Murtaugh, Hagerman to Oakley, Castleford to Shoshone and Mountain Home will be on the road to Twin Falls.

For the soccer games, first for the boys, Snake River and Filer will travel to Buhl, American Falls and Gooding will meet in Gooding, Burley goes to Pocatello, Canyon Ridge will travel to Thunder Ridge, Middleton meet in Twin Falls

For the girls Buhl, Aberdeen, Filer, Aberdeen and American Falls all meet in American Falls, Thunder Ridge will travel to Canyon Ridge.   Minico goes to Mountain Home, Wood River to Century. 

For volleyball, Sugar Salem will play in Kimberly, Burley, Wood River and Buhl travels to Madison to participate in the Battle of the best tournament.
