Gooding County Prosecutor Trevor Misseldine said the Gooding County Sheriff's Office discovered a shallow grave in the rural part of the county on Sept. 21 after a community tip.  The victim has not been identified. The sheriff's office is investigating the incident as a homicide, as they believe foul play may be involved.

There may be some disruption in Idaho courtrooms starting tomorrow.  The state will take over the costs and responsibility of public defense for indigent defendants in the state. Prior to Oct. 1, the responsibility for the cost of public defense was on the counties. The change came after sweeping legislation after years-long litigation over inadequate public defense in Idaho.  Some attorneys say they may try to get out of some of the cases because they may be paid less.  The Idaho state bar said public defenders can’t walk away from cases without a judge’s permission. 

A 26-year-old Nampa woman died following a car crash and a 24-year-old man is facing vehicular manslaughter charges.  It all happened late Friday night along North Middleton Road in canyon county.  Police say Brook Tayler died at a nearby hospital from her injuries.  Shaeden Robinson was charged with felony aggravated DUI and vehicular manslaughter. 

Bryan Kohberger appeared for the first time in an Ada County courtroom Thursday afternoon for a status conference as the case moves forward after a change of venue. Kohberger is accused of killing four University of Idaho students.  The hearing lasted about 30 minutes, where most of the discussion centered around a timeline for the trial which was previously slated to start in June 2025 in Latah County. The trial is expected to last several months in Ada County.

The Frog Fire has burned 3,112 acres and is 66% contained as of Sunday.  The Yankee Fork camp will shut down on Sunday, and the remaining crews will work from a remote camp in Little Boulder Creek, according to the team meanwhile, the Wapiti Fire has burned 125,540 acres, and containment is 75% completed.

DaVonte’ Neal, a former assistant football coach at Idaho State University, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2017 shooting death of Bryan Burns in Tempe, Arizona. Neal was initially charged with first-degree murder but accepted a plea deal to a reduced charge.  The incident occurred when Burns’ vehicle was side-swiped near Interstate 10 and Elliot Road. Following the collision, Neal allegedly opened fire, killing Burns. Neal was later arrested in 2022 in Pocatello while serving as an assistant coach for Idaho State’s football program.  In addition to the murder charge, Neal also faced accusations of drive-by shooting and discharging a firearm into a structure.   Prior to his coaching career, Neal had been a standout football player at the University of Arizona, where he played wide receiver and cornerback.

Boise State jumped four spots in the Associated Press Top 25 poll Sunday, up to No. 21 following a decisive 45-24 win over previously unbeaten Washington State.  The No. 21 billing is the highest the Broncos have been listed since Nov. 1, 2020. This week's elevation mimicked that 2020 season when a 49-30 win at Air Force pushed the Broncos up four spots from No. 25 to No. 21 in a week's time.

Idaho scored a field goal and a touchdown in the final 4:28 of the game, but a two-point attempt to force a tie came up short and the fourth-ranked Vandals fell to No. 14 UC Davis 28-26 in the fourth road game in the first five to start the season for the Vandals. Idaho returns to the Kibbie Dome for just the second time this season for Homecoming to host Northern Arizona.

The College of Southern Idaho lost to North Idaho College Saturday 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 25-18 to open Scenic West Athletic Conference play.  CSI, 5-11 overall and 0-1 in conference play, travels to Salt Lake and Colorado Northwestern CC next week.

The CSI Men's soccer club fell to 3-6 on the year as they lost 6-2 Saturday afternoon to Snow College.  The Golden Eagles will return home in a week's time to take on Truckee Meadows Oct. 5th.

The CSI Women's soccer club fell short in their attempt of picking up their first nationally ranked victory as they fell 3-0 to #13 Snow College on Saturday afternoon.  Southern Idaho will return home to begin the second time through the conference schedule, as they take on Truckee Meadows on Saturday. 

From the local football fields, in high school play, Buhl defeated Wood River 14 to 44.  It was Carey over Hansen 70 to 6.  It was Declo 6 West Side 0.  Dietrich 58 over Richfield 6 and Glenns Ferry downed Raft River 32 to 8.  Canyon Ridge took out Jerome for Jerome’s homecoming 34 to 12.  Marsh Valley defeated Filer 27 to 20.  Minico outlasted Burley 64 to 17.  Valley downed Murtaugh 62 to 34.  Hagerman downed Oakley 76 to 12.  Shoshone outlasted Castleford 82 to 12.  Twin Falls for the win over Mountain Home 43 to 16. 

For boys’ soccer, Wood River outlasted Century 5 to 3, Burley and Pocatello tied it up with 1 each.  It was Filer 6 Snake River 1.  Middleton for the win over Twin Falls 2 to 1.  For the girls, Buhl downed Aberdeen 9 to 2.  American Falls 4 Buhl 2.  Thunder Ridge 1 Canyon Ridge 0.  Mountain Home over Minico 9 to 1. 

For volleyball games, Kimberly downed sugar Salem 3 to 2. 

On today’s schedule, for boys’ soccer, Kimberly travels to Buhl, Gooding goes to Filer, Declo to the sun Valley community school, Wendell to Bliss and for the girls, Kimberly to Buhl, Gooding to Filer, Declo to the Sun Valley Community School, Century to Twin Falls and Wendell to Bliss.

For Volleyball games, twin Falls Christian Academy travels to Camas County, Shoshone to Hansen, Watersprings to Lighthouse Christian, Glenns Ferry to Dietrich, Castleford to Hagerman, Raft River to Richfield and Carey to Valley.
