🚨 CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office arrested 70-year-old Alan Douglas Bruce for the suspected murder of 47-year-old Patrick Shelton of Challis. Shelton vanished during a firewood trip. Evidence confirms Shelton’s death, though his body has not been recovered.

Five men, including four private security guards, pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges after dragging Dr. Teresa Borrenpohl from a Coeur d’Alene town hall in February. Borrenpohl, a Post Falls medical doctor, was left with visible injuries.

A 19-year-old man, Skyler Andra, was sentenced for his role in a 2024 fatal shooting at Compass Academy in Idaho Falls. He received 90 days in jail, community service, and probation for leaving the scene.

A 37-year-old Filer man, Thomas Hernandez, charged with seven felony sex crimes, seeks to withdraw his Alford plea. He initially pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd conduct with a child under 16 but now claims coercion. A judge will decide.


🏞 COMMUNITY & ENVIRONMENT

All public roads and trails in the South Hills reopen Friday. Riders are urged to clean up trash, wear helmets, and ensure proper registration. Avoid muddy roads to prevent fines or jail.

Ada County launched Idaho’s first renewable natural gas facility, converting landfill methane to energy for up to 20,000 homes. It’s expected to generate $1 million annually and cut emissions.

Canyon County Pride returns to Nampa June 8 at Lakeview Park. Organizers expect big crowds, enhanced security, and 80 vendors. Officials emphasize the event is protected by First Amendment rights.

Kimberly golf dominated at the 4A State Championships. The boys won by 15 strokes; Wyatt Williams repeated as individual champ. Kimberly’s girls’ team won by 59 strokes, with Filer’s Tanli LeMoyne claiming the individual title.

The Declo Hornets won the 3A Boys’ State Golf Championship, beating Melba by six strokes. Axel Silcock led with a third-place individual finish. Hagerman’s Kricket Wise and Declo’s Ava Cameron placed top 10 on the girls’ side.

The College of Southern Idaho Distance Track Teams head to Hutchinson, Kansas, for NJCAA Division I Outdoor Nationals. Five men and eight women qualified. Events start Thursday at 4 p.m.
