🛣 Deadly Crash Near Fort Hall

Idaho State Police are investigating a deadly crash on I-15 near Fort Hall yesterday morning. A 42-year-old Rupert man and a 44-year-old Paul man were killed when their pickup left the road and overturned. The semi driver from McCammon was not injured.

💆‍♀️ Massage Parlor Sentencing

In Twin Falls, Lan Wang was sentenced to 180 days (145 suspended) after the August 2024 massage-parlor raids. With 35 days’ time served, she’s out but faces two years’ probation, warrantless searches, and a $1,000 fine.

⚖ Kohberger Restitution Challenge

Attorneys for Bryan Kohberger, serving life for the 2022 Moscow murders, are challenging the state’s request for over $27,000 in additional restitution. They argue victims’ families already received GoFundMe support. A hearing is set for November 5.

🍞 SNAP Delays Possible

Idaho SNAP recipients may see delays in November benefits as the federal shutdown enters its third week. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare says it’s working with federal partners to reduce disruptions. WIC benefits remain unaffected, but call center wait times may be longer.

🐎 Wilder Raid Backlash

Governor Brad Little says the state supported federal agents in Sunday’s raid of an illegal horse racing and gambling operation in Wilder that drew about 400 people. The FBI-led investigation led to five federal charges, and ICE reports 105 adults taken into custody.

🧮 Student Scores Decline

Idaho student proficiency rates continue to decline — now just 47% in language arts and 42% in math. State Superintendent Debbie Critchfield says COVID impacts and curriculum choices play key roles but expects reading scores to improve soon thanks to stronger phonics instruction.

🎆 America250 Funding

Idaho’s America250 Advisory Council has approved nearly $74,000 for planning patriotic celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. The council’s budget — totaling about $800,000 — is exempt from this year’s statewide 3% budget cuts.

💡 Energy Assistance at Risk

With colder weather driving up heating costs, South Central Community Action Partnership is helping families apply for federal LIHEAP energy assistance. But the ongoing government shutdown has put program funding at risk. Locals can also seek help through Project Share or Idaho Power assistance programs.

🦅 CSI Men’s Basketball Ranked 17th

The College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team is ranked 17th in the NJCAA preseason Top 25 poll released Monday. The Golden Eagles are one of two Scenic West Athletic Conference teams in the rankings, with Snow College at No. 10 as the preseason favorite. CSI returns five players from last year’s squad and adds new international talent for the upcoming season. The Golden Eagles tip off their season in 10 days — Halloween night at home.

🏐 Carey Panthers Claim District Title

The Carey Panthers are headed back to state after defeating Castleford 3-1 in the 1A District IV volleyball championship. Led by Abbi Whittier and Andie Simpson, Carey rallied after dropping the first set to claim the title. The Panthers now prepare for the state tournament next Thursday in Coeur d’Alene.

🧤 CSI Goalkeeper Honored

CSI freshman goalkeeper Robert Foster has been named Scenic West Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season. Foster tallied five saves in a tight loss to Salt Lake Community College and five more in a shutout win over Colorado Northwestern. The Golden Eagles visit Snow College and USU Eastern this week in their regular-season finale.

🏈 Vandals Host Portland State

The Idaho Vandals host Portland State Saturday at 1 in the Kibbie Dome for Military Appreciation and Leadership Weekend. Idaho leads the all-time series 15-2 and looks to snap a Big Sky skid.

⚽ Boise State Eyes Title

Boise State women’s soccer visits Grand Canyon Thursday night in Phoenix for their first-ever matchup. The Broncos are unbeaten on the road and can clinch the Mountain West regular-season title with a win. Boise State leads the conference with 20 points.

🎣 Fall Fish Stocking

Idaho Fish and Game has stocked thousands of catchable rainbow trout across Southern Idaho, including popular spots near Twin Falls, Mountain Home, and Hagerman. It’s part of their fall stocking program to boost local fishing. Find full locations and dates at idfg.idaho.gov.
