Carey Fire Stopped Near Highway 20
Firefighters have stopped the forward spread of a wildfire along U.S. Highway 20 near Hofstetter Lane in Carey. Crews remained on scene yesterday mopping up hot spots. It’s the second fire in the area in less than 24 hours. Officials say the first fire was caused by fireworks.
Big Wood Fire Contained
The Big Wood Fire in Gooding County is now contained at 204 acres. Crews expect to have the fire fully under control by tonight as mop-up operations continue.

Cassia Administrators Resign
Two Cassia County School District administrators, Kim Bedke and Steve Copmann, have resigned, citing concerns over budget cuts, staffing changes and communication. Trustees also approved a $58.7 million budget after reducing positions because of declining enrollment.
Boise State Names New President
Boise State has a new president. The Idaho State Board of Education unanimously appointed Dr. David Hahn, who officially takes over leadership of the university effective immediately.

Western Governors Back Power Grid Effort
Governor Brad Little has joined 10 other Western governors in supporting a new regional effort to modernize the power grid. The coalition aims to improve reliability, expand transmission lines, and meet growing energy demands across the West.
New ITD Director And Tax Commission Chair
Governor Brad Little has named Alberto Gonzalez as the new director of the Idaho Transportation Department, replacing retiring Director Scott Stokes later this month. Little also appointed John Bernasconi as chairman of the Idaho State Tax Commission.
Spencer Mayor Headed To District Court
The mayor of Spencer is headed to District Court. Spencer Mayor David Price faces a felony insurance fraud charge after a judge found enough evidence to move the case forward over allegations he misrepresented what he paid for a boat. Price has pleaded not guilty.

Twin Falls Odor Reporting Tool
The City of Twin Falls is asking residents to help track offensive odors by using the Odor Reporting Tool at TFID.org. City officials say odor complaints have dropped sharply, from 308 reports in 2024 to just 19 reports so far this year, thanks to ongoing odor-control improvements.

Idaho Steps Up Bird Flu Precautions
Idaho is stepping up bird flu precautions as 71 dairies remain under quarantine and a Treasure Valley poultry flock was euthanized after testing positive. State officials say the risk is to animal health, not the safety of milk or dairy products.

Micron Invests In Trump Accounts Program
Fresh off becoming Idaho’s first trillion-dollar company, Micron is investing $250 million to support children and families through the new Trump Accounts program. Eligible children in parts of the Treasure Valley will receive a one-time $250 contribution, with additional savings benefits available for Micron employees’ families.

Boise State Officially Joins Pac-12
Boise State is officially in the Pac-12 as of today, marking the end of a 15-year run in the Mountain West. The Broncos join seven other schools in the rebuilt conference, with football opening Pac-12 play October 3rd at home against Utah State. Fans will also notice a fresh look on The Blue this fall, featuring the Pac-12 logo and new field tributes to Idaho and Bronco legends.
Broncos Lead Preseason Pac-12 Selections
Boise State Broncos football is leading the Pac-12 before the season even starts. The Broncos landed a conference-best 20 preseason All-Pac-12 selections from Athlon Sports, including nine first-team picks. Edge rusher Jayden Virgin-Morgan also earned Preseason All-America honors.
Front Porch Of Idaho Initiative
Boise State Athletics is asking Bronco Nation to help power the program’s future with the new Front Porch of Idaho Initiative. The goal is to raise an additional $30 million as Boise State enters its first season in the Pac-12. The campaign also aims to grow membership in the Bronco Athletic Association, increase football season ticket holders, and expand major donors by June of next year.

Twin Falls Rapids Headed To Nationals
The Twin Falls Rapids Girls U-19 soccer team is headed to the US Youth Soccer National Championships in Tennessee after winning the Idaho State Cup. The Magic Valley squad, featuring players from Twin Falls, Burley, Kimberly, Gooding and Minico, opens group play July 13 and is chasing a second straight national title after winning the National Presidents Cup last year. The team is also holding a fundraiser July 7 at Chipotle in Twin Falls to help cover travel expenses.
