🚔 OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING — HEYBURN

The Jerome County Sheriff’s Office is leading an investigation into a fatal officer-involved shooting near Heyburn. Idaho State Police says a trooper stopped a pickup yesterday afternoon in Minidoka County before reporting gunfire. The 31-year-old driver was shot and died at the scene. The trooper was not injured and has been placed on administrative leave while the Critical Incident Task Force investigates.

⚖ HEYBURN MURDER SENTENCING

A Heyburn man will spend the rest of his life in prison for a 2022 murder. Judge Eric Wildman sentenced Klee Morrison to life without parole Monday for the murder of Julio Lopez. Morrison was also convicted of destroying evidence and conspiracy.

⚖ BOISE MAN INDICTED — BOSNIA ALLEGATIONS

A Boise man has been indicted on federal charges after prosecutors say he concealed alleged human rights abuses while seeking U.S. citizenship. Sixty-six-year-old Miran Kostic is accused of abusing prisoners while serving as an official in Bosnia and Herzegovina, then lying about his past to federal authorities.

⛽ IDAHO GAS PRICES CLIMB

Idaho gas prices continue to climb. AAA says the statewide average is now $4.42 a gallon, up seven cents from last week and 91 cents from a year ago. Twin Falls is even higher at $4.47. Idaho continues to rank seventh nationally for the most expensive gas.

🐄 FEDERAL GRAZING PLAN LAWSUIT

A conservation group is suing the federal government over plans to expand cattle grazing onto more than 24 million acres of federal land across the West. The Center for Biological Diversity claims the plan violates federal environmental laws and could threaten protected species. Federal officials have promoted expanded grazing as supporting ranchers and reducing wildfire fuels.

🦪 QUAGGA MUSSEL ERADICATION

Idaho officials say efforts to eradicate quagga mussels in the Snake River are making progress. Sampling found 77-percent fewer mussel larvae than last year. Another treatment is planned for late August.

🥔 FARM TO SCHOOL PROGRAM

Idaho’s Farm to School program is bringing more locally grown food into school cafeterias. State Superintendent Debbie Critchfield says Idaho receives three-million dollars to help schools buy from local farmers and producers. About 70-percent of Idaho schools now participate, serving items like locally grown potatoes, fruits, vegetables and dairy products.

🏈 GOODING SENATORS — FOOTBALL PREVIEW

With high school football kicking off soon, we’re taking a closer look at local teams. The Gooding Senators are coming off a 5-and-4 season and enter year two under head coach Jon Helmandollar. Gooding is aiming for its first conference title since 2021, with senior quarterback Cougar Stockham expecting a more balanced offense. The Senators open August 28th on the road against Jerome.

🏈 JEROME TIGERS — FOOTBALL PREVIEW

The Jerome Tigers enter 2026 hungry to prove they’re better than last year’s 3-and-6 record. Head coach Rich Bishop says the key is learning how to finish close games and developing a stronger running attack to complement Jerome’s passing game. Seniors Ben Landrin and Cody McDonald have their sights set on a winning season and a playoff run. Jerome opens August 28th at home against Gooding.

🏈 KIMBERLY BULLDOGS — FOOTBALL PREVIEW

The Kimberly Bulldogs enter 2026 with some unfinished business after falling just eight points short of a state championship last season. Head coach Joe Dille returns to an experienced group and says a deep junior class will add even more depth. Seniors Monroe Whitten and Brandon Elizondo say the goal is simple—get back to the title game and win it. Kimberly opens August 22nd against Fruitland.

🏈 HAGERMAN PIRATES — FOOTBALL PREVIEW

The Hagerman Pirates enter 2026 with a new head coach and championship expectations. Jacob Hicks takes over for his father, Bill, after Hagerman went 7-and-4 and won the Snake River Conference last season. Seniors Adam Nelson and Jonah Knapp expect an improved defense and another deep playoff run. The Pirates open on August 28th on the road against North Star Charter.

🏈 BOISE STATE — MADSEN WATCH LIST

Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen has been named to the Walter Camp Award Watch List, honoring the nation’s most outstanding college football player. Madsen enters his fifth season with more than 7,000 yards of total offense and 61 touchdowns. He was also the Mountain West Championship Offensive MVP last season, helping Boise State capture its third straight conference title. Madsen is one of only two Pac-12 players named to this year’s Walter Camp watch list.

⚽ IDAHO SOCCER — VANDALS IN HAWAII

Idaho women’s soccer takes its 2-and-0 start to Hawaii tonight for a neutral-site matchup against Western Michigan. The Vandals opened the season with wins over Washington State and CSUN, marking their first 2-and-0 start since 2021 and the program’s 200th victory. Idaho has yet to allow a goal this season, with goalkeeper Paula Flores posting back-to-back shutouts. Kickoff against Western Michigan is set for 7 tonight.

⚽ IDAHO STATE SOCCER — CALIFORNIA ROAD TRIP

Idaho State women’s soccer hits the road for the first time this season with two matches in California. The Bengals face CSUN Thursday night at 8 Mountain Time, then CSU Bakersfield Sunday at noon. Idaho State enters the trip 0-0-and-1 after a 1-1 draw with Snow College, where Lacie Poll scored the Bengals’ lone goal. Idaho State returns home August 27th to host UNLV.
