A Twin Falls neighborhood is no longer under a shelter in place this morning after a natural gas leak. Last night, police asked residents in the 800 block of Washington Street South to stay in their homes if they were within a mile of the location. By 11 pm roads were opened back up and the Shelter in place was lifted.
Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of killing four University of Idaho students, could face execution if he’s found guilty. The Ada County judge overseeing the case has denied the defendant’s motion to strike the death penalty.
The City of Twin Falls will close the inside northbound lane on Blue Lakes Boulevard between Addison Avenue to about Shoup Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today to repair the roadway. Crews will be replacing a temporary patch on the road where on Sunday a large water pipe broke.
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare needs an additional 14 million dollars to cover foster care expenses for this fiscal year. Director Alex Adams told the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee yesterday that the largest reason for the increase in cost is the use of congregate care settings for children in foster care paired with the decrease in the number foster families. Roughly 1,400 children are placed in foster care annually in Idaho.
New data from the Idaho Secretary of State’s Office show 121,015 Idahoans registered to vote on Election Day on Nov. 5. That is the second highest number of Idahoans who registered to vote on Election Day in general elections since 2000.
With the talk of mass deportations, leaders for the Idaho Dairy industry are getting concerned. Rick Narebout the CEO for the Idaho dairymen’s association said that like most ag industries, they rely on immigrant labor which accounts for 90-percent of their workforce. The dairy industry in the state is worth 14 billion dollars. It’s the largest commodity in Idaho and 3rd largest in the nation. The group hopes congress expands the H-2A visas, which allow temporary visas for seasonal workers in agriculture, to include dairy farmers. it’s something they’ve been advocating for 20 years.

Three Magic Valley teams will head to the mini-Dome in Pocatello this weekend to try to finish the quest to win a state championship. No. 1 Carey and No. 2 Dietrich will clash in the 1A championship at 7 p.m. Thursday while No. 1 Declo will battle No. 3 West Side in the 3A championship at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
As for the schedule for Girls high school basketball today, Weiser travels to Gooding, Hansen will visit Twin Falls Christian Academy, Canyon Ridge goes to Buhl, Preston goes to Burley and Valley heads to Castleford. It’s Bonneville to Minico and Centennial to Mountain Home. Dietrich will travel to Raft River. Glenns Ferry goes to Rimrock. Murtaugh goes to Rockland and Richfield to Shoshone. Kimberly will travel to take on the Twin Falls Bruins.
Boise State volleyball will close out the regular season at home on Saturday against the Fresno State Bulldogs. The match is scheduled for a noon.
In College Football, while Boise State is riding its longest single-season winning streak in 10 years, the Broncos have an opportunity to lock in a spot in the Mountain West Championship Game on Saturday as they will face Wyoming at Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium with a 5 p.m. game on CBS Sports Network.
Rosie Schweizer scored a game-high 21 points and added eight rebounds as Idaho Vandal women’s basketball dominated inside en route to a 56-42 win over UC Riverside, Wednesday in Riverside, California. The Vandals continue their road trip in Southern California Saturday with a game at Cal Poly at 2 p.m.
Idaho State women’s basketball is back home Thursday evening with a non-conference clash against the Westminster Griffins, an NCAA DII School out of the RMAC. The contest will be a countable game for the Bengals while it will go in as an exhibition for the Griffins who are playing up a division.
