๐Ÿ“ฐ Friday News: Whatโ€™s Happening Across the Magic Valley?

Good morning, Magic Valley! โ˜€๏ธ Hereโ€™s your look at the latest local news, Idaho headlines, high school sports, and the weekend weather forecast.

๐Ÿฅ Idaho Health Insurance Rates Expected to Rise 12%

Idahoans could be paying more for health insurance in 2027. The Idaho Department of Insurance says individual and small-group health insurance premiums are expected to increase by an average of 12%, although the actual change will depend on the insurance company and plan.

Moda has the largest average increase in the individual market at 23%, followed by Mountain Health CO-OP at 19%. Regence and SelectHealth have the lowest average increases at 9%.

Insurance officials point to rising medical costs as a major factor. Open enrollment through Your Health Idaho begins October 15, with coverage scheduled to start January 1.

๐Ÿšฐ Boil Water Order Issued for Part of Jerome

Residents in part of Jerome are being advised to follow a boil water order after construction crews struck a water line near Buchanan Street and East Main Street.

The affected area includes the north side of the 200 block of East Main, along with both sides of the 300 and 400 blocks.

Residents in the affected locations should follow the city’s boil water instructions until further notice.

๐Ÿšง Thousand Springs Grade to Close Next Week

Planning a trip to Thousand Springs State Park? You’ll want to adjust your plans.

Thousand Springs Grade south of Hagerman will close to all traffic Monday through Friday, October 12โ€“16, while Idaho Power performs maintenance at its power plant.

Heavy equipment, including a crane, will occupy the road. Access to Thousand Springs Park and Ritter Island will be blocked during the closure.

Reopening is expected Saturday, October 17.

๐Ÿšด Bicyclist Injured in Ketchum Crash

A bicyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a pickup at Main and Fourth streets in Ketchum.

Police say the cyclist activated the flashing crosswalk lights before crossing, but the pickup entered her path. She was wearing a helmet.

The driver was cited for inattentive driving. The crash remains under investigation.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Idaho’s Job Market Forecast to Outpace the Nation

Idaho’s economy is projected to grow significantly faster than the national average through 2034, according to the Idaho Department of Labor.

State officials forecast annual employment growth of 1.3%, compared with approximately 0.3% nationally. Total employment in Idaho is projected to surpass one million jobs.

Healthcare and social assistance could add approximately 34,000 jobs, while construction is expected to add nearly 15,000 and manufacturing another 8,500.

Population growth and an aging population are expected to drive much of the demand. Governor Brad Little says workforce training, education, and infrastructure will be important as Idaho prepares for that growth.

๐Ÿšœ Agriculture Remains a Major Part of Idaho’s Economy

Idaho agriculture generated nearly $12 billion in farm revenue in 2025, according to figures cited by the Idaho Farm Bureau.

That works out to approximately $5,887 per Idaho resident, although the figure represents agricultural productionโ€”not money paid directly to residents.

Agriculture supports roughly one in every nine Idaho jobs and accounts for an estimated 17% of the state’s economic output.

However, strong production numbers don’t necessarily mean strong profits for farmers. Farm Bureau spokesperson Sean Ellis says producers continue to face price pressures, with lower yields expected this year.

โš–๏ธ Ammon Bundy Released on Bail After Utah Traffic Stop

Ammon Bundy has been released on bail following a traffic stop in southern Utah.

According to the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy stopped Bundy on Interstate 15 after noticing his pickup had no license plate. Authorities say the vehicle’s registration was inactive and his driver’s license had expired.

Deputies allege Bundy refused to exit the vehicle when told it would be impounded, grabbed the steering wheel, and resisted being handcuffed.

He was booked on four alleged offenses, including interfering with an officer and driving without registration. Bundy has said he believes travel is a God-given right that should not require government permission.

๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ Idaho Voters to Weigh In on Official State Gun

Idaho voters will have another question to consider on November 3: Which firearm should represent the state?

The advisory ballot question offers six choices, including two Winchester rifles, the Colt Peacemaker revolver, the M1 Garand, the Colt M1911 pistol, and the Remington Model 700 hunting rifle.

The vote is nonbinding, meaning the results will not automatically determine the state’s official firearm. Lawmakers will make the final decision.

Supporters hope the question will encourage more people to participate in the election.
