🏛 LEGISLATURE WRAPS UP SESSION

Idaho lawmakers have wrapped up the 2026 legislative session after 81 days. The session included across-the-board budget cuts of 4% this year and 5% next year. Several bills failed to pass—including a proposal tied to immigration enforcement and another that would’ve allowed the attorney general to remove local officials—highlighting a divisive session at the Capitol.

As the session wrapped up, Governor Brad Little says lawmakers balanced the budget while protecting schools and public safety, calling it a plan that keeps Idaho’s strong economy on track.


🏥 RURAL HEALTH FUNDING APPROVED

The Idaho Legislature has approved a five-year, nearly $930 million federal grant to boost rural healthcare, with lawmakers narrowly passing a plan that includes oversight on how the funds will be spent.


🚔 IMMIGRATION BILL FAILS AGAIN

An Idaho immigration bill aimed at requiring local law enforcement to work with federal authorities has failed again. Lawmakers passed it in the House, but it died in the Senate overrule violations, marking another setback for immigration enforcement efforts this session.


⚖ ATTORNEY GENERAL POWER BILL REJECTED

A bill that would’ve allowed Idaho’s Attorney General to disqualify local officials for violating state law has failed in the Senate. Lawmakers voted it down 27 to 8 after bipartisan concerns it gave the state too much power over local governments.


🏫 JEROME MOVES TO FOUR-DAY SCHOOL WEEK

The Jerome School District is moving to a four-day school week starting in the 2027–2028 school year. The board approved it 4 to 1 last night after community input showed about two-thirds support. Leaders say it could help with student mental health and teacher retention, with a final schedule expected in December.


🌾 WATER CUTS DUE TO DROUGHT

Due to drought, Twin Falls Canal Company is cutting water deliveries 17 percent. Residents are urged to follow assigned watering days to ensure everyone gets irrigation water this season.


🚨 FATAL CRASH ON I-15

Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal crash early yesterday on Interstate 15 near Idaho Falls. A wrong-way driver collided head-on with a minivan. A 39-year-old man from Rigby was killed. Southbound lanes were blocked for about five hours.

⚾ BASEBALL RESULTS

On the baseball diamond, Jerome stayed hot in conference play, shutting out Wood River 10 to nothing. And in non-conference action, Mountain Home put up 13 runs to beat Marsing 13 to 7.


🥎 SOFTBALL RESULTS

Over on the softball field, Burley swept Jerome—winning game one 11 to 1, then holding on for a 15 to 10 victory in game two. Canyon Ridge also grabbed a doubleheader sweep, beating Mountain Home 8 to 2, and then exploding offensively in a 25 to 9 win in the nightcap.

Man, it is a loaded weekend on the diamond across the Magic Valley.
Starting with baseball Friday—Garden Valley and Glenns Ferry get after it at 2:00, then again at noon. Snake River takes on Filer at 2:30 in Kimberly. At 4:00, you’ve got American Falls at Declo and Burley heading to Pocatello. Later at 4:45, Teton faces Buhl in Buhl, and Wood River takes on Kimberly.

Earlier in the day—Snake River and Kimberly at 10, Wood River and Filer at 12:15, plus South Fremont and Buhl also in action.


📅 BASEBALL SCHEDULE – SATURDAY

Saturday baseball, Declo hosts Lighthouse Christian twice—11 AM and 1 PM. At 2:30, Teton plays Filer in Kimberly, and Bear Lake meets Wood River in Buhl. At 4:45, it’s Snake River and Buhl, plus South Fremont and Kimberly.

Earlier—10 AM games with Bear Lake vs Buhl and Teton vs Kimberly, Wendell at Firth at 11, then Minico at Twin Falls at noon. And at 12:15, South Fremont plays Filer while Snake River faces Wood River.

Friday at 10 AM, Declo and Wood River. 11:45, North Fremont and Buhl. At 1:30, Sugar-Salem takes on Kimberly and McCall-Donnelly faces Wood River. 3:15, South Fremont and Kimberly. At 4:00, Melba visits Wendell.

Then at 5:00, Buhl plays Cole Valley Christian and Sugar-Salem faces Declo.

3:15, Kimberly and North Fremont. 4:00, Burley at Pocatello and Filer at Wendell. 5:00, Buhl and Sugar-Salem. And at noon, Rocky Mountain heads to Twin Falls.


🦅 CSI BASEBALL

The College of Southern Idaho dropped its Scenic West opener to Salt Lake 10 to 1, stranding 10 runners and struggling to get timely hits. Tayson Howard drove in the lone run, going 2-for-4 with a double, while Grayson Riding took the loss on the mound.

The Golden Eagles, now 31 and 7, look to bounce back in a doubleheader today starting at 1.
