🔥 FIRE & EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Crews from four departments battled a Tuesday morning apartment fire in Fruitland that displaced over 30 people. No injuries were reported, but one pet died. Three of 12 units burned, and nearby businesses evacuated. A Red Cross shelter opened in Malheur County.

🏛 STATE POLITICS & POLICY

Governor Brad Little voiced support for a GOP-backed bill extending 2017 tax cuts but warned it could shift millions in SNAP costs to Idaho. He said the state’s strong oversight and rainy-day fund make it better prepared than most, though cuts could still impact low-income families.

The Twin Falls City Council has adopted a new policy allowing invocations at the start of meetings. Resolution R-2025-002 invites residents of all faiths to volunteer, with scheduling managed by the City Clerk’s Office. Email cityclerk@tfid.org to sign up.

Idaho has approved over $30 million in new water infrastructure funding to support farmers under the 2024 Water Settlement Agreement. Governor Little says the funding ensures water sustainability in eastern Idaho and the Magic Valley, with projects launching July 1.

⚖ CRIME & COURTS

David Ruggles, 57, of Twin Falls County, appeared in court Tuesday on charges including child sexual abuse and witness intimidation. Deputies say he gave a teen girl weed gummies and performed a lewd act in her presence. His bond is set at $25,000, with a hearing on June 6.

💀 CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

Idaho has paused all state executions to renovate its death row facility and prepare for firing squad executions by July 2026. The move follows a new law making the firing squad Idaho’s primary execution method—the only state in the nation to do so.

🚗 TRAFFIC & INFRASTRUCTURE

Drivers in Twin Falls should expect lane shifts on Falls Avenue East and a closure on Madrona Street from Wednesday to Friday. Crews will set up a center work zone and install utilities. Detours will be marked.

⛽ GAS PRICES

Idaho gas prices are falling again, averaging $3.29 per gallon—down two cents from last week and 47 cents from a year ago. AAA warns prices could rise again this summer as travel demand picks up.
