Gas prices are climbing as tensions rise in the Middle East. AAA reports Idaho’s average for regular gas is $3.38—up nine cents from last week. The national average is $3.22.

Poacher Loses Hunting License for Life
A Rupert man lost his Idaho hunting license for life after using a helicopter to chase game. Karl Studer pleaded guilty in a poaching case and was fined nearly $180,000. A judge called it a message to others about protecting Idaho’s wildlife.
Caldwell Man Convicted of Unemployment Fraud
Woody Roberts was sentenced to up to eight years in prison and must repay over $57,000 after falsely claiming unemployment benefits while working from 2020 to 2021.

An Amber Alert remains active for Allen and Rachelle Fischer, last seen June 22 in Monteview, Idaho. They may be headed to Mendon, Utah in a gray Hyundai with Utah plates 4BYT6. Call the police if you see them.
Kohberger Trial Update
In the University of Idaho murder case, a forensic expert says the use of genetic genealogy to match Bryan Kohberger’s DNA to a knife sheath may be key at trial. The defense is questioning the private database used. Trial begins August 11.

Sun Valley Tour de Force Canceled
The Sun Valley Tour de Force, set for July 17–19, has been canceled after organizers lost insurance coverage. The luxury car event featured rare vehicles and the famed “No Speed Limit Run” on Highway 75.
Behavioral Health Council Seeks Input
The Idaho Behavioral Health Council is seeking public input on how to spend opioid settlement funds. Idaho receives about $2 million a year. Feedback is due by July 31 via email before priorities are set in August.
Albertsons Workers Authorize Strike
Albertsons workers in Boise and Nampa have voted to authorize a strike over unfair labor practices. The union claims the company threatened employees during wage negotiations. Talks resume today, but no strike date is set.

Senate Passes Rural Schools Funding
The U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bill to reauthorize the Secure Rural Schools program through 2026. The program helps fund schools, roads, and services in rural Idaho and Oregon. Lawmakers now urge the House to pass it.

CSI Rodeo Team Ends Season
CSI’s four athletes wrapped up the College National Finals Rodeo with no final’s qualifiers. Coy Montgomery led the Golden Eagles with a 19th place finish in Bareback Riding, while Hailey Gibbs took 30th in Goat Tying.
Idaho Ropers Shine at Nationals
Minico grad Brey Yore is now a national reserve champ in tie-down roping, finishing second at the College National Finals Rodeo. Idahoans Aaron Champneys and Ady Wright also placed in the top six overall.

- Minico Storm A swept Post 56 Knights AA, 5-4 and 9-5. Cayden Fletcher went 4-for-4 in Game 2. Storm visits Buhl Wednesday.
- Twin Falls Hawks A beat Filer 4-1 and 15-8. Grant Hales struck out 11 in Game 1. Hawks host Jerome July 8.
- Twin Falls Cowboys B crushed Pocatello 17-1 and 10-3. Tristyn Orr had three hits in the opener.
- Gooding Diamondbacks B swept Hub City 12-2 and 17-8. Cole Kearsley had four RBIs in Game 2.
- Filer B beat Jerome 9-4 and 15-6 behind Riley Foss and Lane Walgamott.
- Minico B edged Burley 8-6. They host Pocatello Wednesday.
- Burley, Hub City, and Filer return to action this week in doubleheaders.
Vandals to Hooptown Hall of Fame
Ahead of Spokane Hoopfest, the 1981-82 Idaho Vandals basketball team and coach Don Monson will be inducted into the Hooptown Hall of Fame Wednesday. The Vandals went 27-3 and reached the Sweet 16, their greatest season on record.
