A Heat Advisory begins today at noon and continues through tomorrow evening across southern Idaho. Highs could reach 103 degrees, with warm overnight temperatures offering little relief.


🔥 WILDFIRES

🔥 Bellevue Fire Grows

A wildfire east of Bellevue has grown to between 500 and 1,000 acres. A Level 2 “Set” evacuation remains in effect for the Slaughterhouse Canyon area. No injuries or structure losses have been reported.

🔥 Claremont Fire Update

The Claremont Fire in the Boise Foothills has grown to 6,530 acres. Evacuations have been lifted, but officials say the human-caused fire has several road closures still in place.


🚔 CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY

🔪 Arrest Made in Boise Greenbelt Murder

Boise Police have arrested 41-year-old Ross Wardlaw on a first-degree murder charge in the fatal stabbing of 25-year-old Jordan Harbst along the Boise Greenbelt. Investigators say the two men did not know each other, and the attack appears to have been unprovoked.

👶 Nampa Mother Expected to Plead Guilty

A Nampa mother charged in the death of her 12-day-old son is expected to plead guilty. Allysen Armenta has a change-of-plea hearing scheduled for July 30, while the baby’s father also plans to plead guilty.

🚓 Twin Falls Explains Flock Camera System

The Twin Falls Police Department is responding to questions about its Flock license plate cameras, saying the system helps locate suspects and stolen vehicles. The department also says the cameras do not record audio or identify drivers or passengers.

💧 Snake River Water Agreement

Good news for Idaho farmers. State officials say Snake River trust water users will not face water shutoffs this irrigation season, despite the ongoing drought, after an agreement between Governor Brad Little and Idaho Power.

⛽ Idaho Gas Prices Drop Below $4

Idaho gas prices have dipped below four dollars a gallon for the first time since March, with today’s statewide average at $3.99. But ongoing tensions in the Middle East are pushing crude oil prices higher. Strong summer travel demand could send prices at the pump back up in the weeks ahead.

📚 Wendell Opens Permanent Library

Wendell has a brand-new permanent library. The city transformed a former shop building into a bright, 4,000-square-foot space, replacing the community’s long-used temporary library.

🍎 Twin Falls Launches Kindergarten Readiness Program

The Twin Falls School District is launching its first kindergarten readiness preschool this fall at Perrine Elementary. The free program has already drawn more applicants than available spots, with enrollment now being decided by lottery.

🇺🇸 Former DACA Recipient in ICE Custody

A 31-year-old Boise man, Marco Antonio Curiel-Guzman, is in ICE custody after a targeted enforcement operation. ICE says the former DACA recipient’s protections expired in 2019 and cited his criminal history as the reason he was targeted.

🚻 Transgender Bathroom Law Takes Effect

As Idaho’s new transgender bathroom law takes effect, advocacy groups are helping transgender residents find gender-neutral restrooms. A federal judge has temporarily blocked parts of the law while legal challenges continue.

🏐 CSI Volleyball Adds Two Assistant Coaches

The College of Southern Idaho volleyball team has added two new assistant coaches ahead of the 2026 season. Natany Guimarães joins the Golden Eagles after coaching at Lewis-Clark State and will work primarily with defensive specialists and serve receive. Bailey Peña brings coaching experience from Hawaii, Burley High School, and Spike Force Volleyball Club. CSI opens the season at home against Montana Western on August 10, as the Golden Eagles prepare for another run this fall.

🏈 Danielson Named to Dodd Trophy Watch List

Boise State head football coach Spencer Danielson has been named to the 2026 Dodd Trophy Preseason Watch List, recognizing coaches for success on the field, along with leadership, academics, and integrity. Danielson is the only Pac-12 coach on this year’s list. Since taking over the Broncos in 2023, he’s posted a 24-and-8 record and led Boise State to three straight conference championships. The Dodd Trophy winner will be announced later this season during Peach Bowl week.

🎾 Castrilli Headed to Idaho State Hall of Fame

Former Idaho State tennis standout Mike Castrilli is headed to the 2026 Idaho State Athletics Hall of Fame. Castrilli starred for the Bengals from 1992 through 1994 and made Big Sky Conference history by becoming the first men’s tennis player to win three straight conference MVP awards. He also won back-to-back Big Sky doubles titles, earned four First Team All-Conference honors, and helped set the standard for Idaho State men’s tennis.
