- Former Fire Chief Charged – Former Gooding Fire Chief Brandon Covey faces 14 felony counts of misusing public funds, accused of spending thousands on alcohol, firearms, and other items. He’s set to enter a plea Sept. 2.
- Child Sex Crimes Case – 61-year-old Shawn Satterthwaite of Twin Falls will stand trial Jan. 14, 2026, on five charges. He pled not guilty and is free on $175,000 bond with strict internet restrictions.
- Standoff Plea Deal – 51-year-old Tyrone Grigg is expected to plead guilty Friday to a reduced charge in a New Year’s Day standoff with police in Twin Falls. He faces up to 25 years for aggravated assault with a weapon enhancement.

- Public Input on City Plans – Twin Falls seeks feedback on its draft 5-year Consolidated Plan and 2025 Action Plan. Public review ends Friday, Aug. 22. Hearing: Monday, Aug. 25 at 5 p.m., City Hall. Details at the City’s Planning & Zoning website.

- America250 Ambassador Program – Idaho’s America250 Advisory Council approved $20,000 to promote the 2026 Declaration of Independence 250th anniversary. Plans include events, grants, and costumed “Revolutionary Spuddy Buddy” mascots touring the state.
- Pickleball Expansion Plans – Twin Falls City Council’s tentative 2026 budget proposes converting an underused tennis court at Harmon Park into four pickleball courts, keeping five for tennis. Frontier Park’s courts are often full. Budget hearing: Aug. 25 at City Hall.
Wildfire
- Rock Fire Near Tamarack Resort – The fire has burned about 2,100 acres, prompting closures on Lake Cascade’s west side and “ready” evacuation notices in Valley County. Tamarack Resort is closed while crews work to contain the blaze.

- Shoshone Indians Football – Coming off their first winning season since 2011 and first playoff run in 24 years, Shoshone opens at home vs. Glenns Ferry on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.
- NFL Preseason – 49ers vs. Raiders – Rookie Ashton Jeanty broke a 72-yard TD run despite being contained most of Thursday’s joint practice. Preseason game Saturday at Allegiant Stadium.
- Declo Hornets Football – Hungry for a state title after back-to-back runner-up finishes, Declo opens next Friday at Teton before hosting Nampa Christian in week one.
