📰 Idaho & Magic Valley Headlines

🚨 Crime & Courts

  • Convicted child killer Lori Vallow sent a cryptic prison message to her only surviving son, Colby Ryan, during CrimeCon 2025 in Denver. She told him “I love you very much” and cited Matthew 25. Ryan dismissed it as her attempt to appear “godly” and says he has no plans to speak with her.
  • Star Police arrested 22-year-old Steen Lamb after a man reported being kidnapped in the Eagle Foothills early Friday. Authorities say the victim was lured under the guise of a photo shoot, then restrained and beaten. Lamb is charged with felony second-degree kidnapping and booked into Ada County Jail.
  • A Kootenai County man is seeking $2.5 million in damages, claiming Sheriff Bob Norris violated his constitutional rights by removing him from a February town hall. Gregg Johnson says he was zip-tied after speaking out against security guards, who now face trial in December for battery and false imprisonment.

🏫 Education

  • The Jerome School District is delaying new bus routes to fix safety and timing issues. Superintendent Brent Johnson says updated pickup and drop-off times will be emailed to families, with the new routes starting September 15th. The district has partnered with Bus Right for improved efficiency and real-time updates.

💊 Health & Policy

  • Idaho’s state employee health plan will stop covering weight-loss drugs like Wegovy and Zepbound on November 1st. Officials say the change will save $30 to $50 million a year, as GLP-1 medications have become one of the fastest-growing expenses. Coverage for diabetes treatment with those drugs will continue.

🎉 Community & Culture

  • The 6th annual Latino Fest filled Twin Falls City Park yesterday with mariachi music, dancing, and Hispanic-themed food. Organizers say the festival celebrates culture in a region where over half the population has Hispanic roots. More events are planned later this fall for the Day of the Dead.
  • The City of Twin Falls breaks ground on its pool renovation and expansion project Wednesday at 4 p.m. The upgrades will modernize locker rooms and improve accessibility. A free community swim follows from 4 to 7 p.m., with treats available during the celebration.
  • Hundreds laced up for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at CSI Saturday, raising money for research and family support. More than 300 joined the mile-long walk, sharing personal stories and hope. Organizers plan walks across Idaho this month, aiming to raise over $100,000.
