Courthouse Weapons Ban Repealed
The Jerome County Courthouse’s weapons ban has been lifted less than a week after taking effect. County commissioners repealed the ban after finding state law limits local authority over firearms. Health Insurance Rates Rising
The Idaho Department of Insurance says 2026 health insurance premiums will rise 10% on the individual market and 11% for small group plans. Officials cite medical inflation but note Idaho’s increases remain lower than most states. Open enrollment begins October 15th through Your Health Idaho.
Deadly Crash in Bonneville County
Idaho State Police are investigating a deadly crash on U.S. 26 in Bonneville County early yesterday morning. Troopers say a 30-year-old Idaho Falls man struck a cow in thick fog, disabling his car, before being hit by another vehicle. The driver of the Volkswagen died at the scene; the other driver was not hurt.
Plane Crashes Into Pettit Lake
Two men were injured after their small plane crashed into Pettit Lake Sunday. The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office says a Cessna 180 clipped the water during a flyover and went down. Boaters pulled the 76-year-old Sun Valley pilot and his 64-year-old passenger from Salt Lake City to safety. Both were treated for minor injuries. The FAA is investigating.
Ford Idaho Center Transfer Moves Forward
The Nampa City Council has voted 4–2 to move forward with transferring ownership of the Ford Idaho Center to the College of Western Idaho. Supporters say it’ll reduce city costs and expand educational use, while opponents worry about losing local control and longtime community events.
New U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Appointed
Boise attorney Brent Wilson has been appointed as the new U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Idaho, replacing the late Judge Joseph Meier. Wilson’s appointment took effect October 6th.
Gas Prices Hold Steady
Idaho gas prices barely budged this week. AAA says the average price for a gallon of regular is $3.47—two cents less than last week, the same as a month ago, and a penny more than a year ago. Nationally, prices sit at $3.13, unchanged from last week. Idaho ranks eighth-highest in the U.S. AAA says demand is down, but crude costs may have briefly stalled seasonal savings.

High School Soccer Showdowns
It’s a packed Tuesday for Magic Valley high-school soccer!
In boys’ action—Mountain Home takes on powerhouse Wood River at five. Twin Falls travels to Minico at five-thirty, and at five-forty-five you’ll see Gooding at Buhl, Sun Valley Community School at Declo, Kimberly at Filer, and Bliss at Wendell—where the Wolverines look to keep their hot streak alive.
On the girls’ side, four-o’clock kickoffs feature Gooding at Buhl, Community School at Declo, Kimberly at Filer, and Bliss at Wendell, plus Homedale heads to McCall-Donnelly at four-thirty, and Wood River visits Mountain Home.
Minico Tops Burley in Pink Out Match
It was Pink Out night in Rupert as the Minico Spartans volleyball team hosted their rivals, the Burley Bobcats. The Spartans followed their football team’s lead—taking care of business on their home court. Minico wins it three sets to one. The Bobcats will try to bounce back Thursday when they travel to Twin Falls.
Boise State Prepares for UNLV
Boise State’s matchup with UNLV is set for Saturday, October 18th, with kickoff at 1:30 Mountain on FS1. It’s the fourth FS1 appearance this season for the Broncos, who’ve won 14 straight at home—fourth-longest streak in the nation. UNLV comes in undefeated and ranked just outside the Top 25. Tickets for the game are nearly gone, and this week’s home game against New Mexico is already a sellout.
Idaho Vandals Climb in the Rankings
The Idaho Vandals climbed to No. 11 in the Stats Perform poll and No. 13 in the AFCA Coaches Poll this week—marking 41 straight weeks in the national Top 25. It’s the second-longest streak in program history. After a brutal stretch against Washington State, San Jose State, and No. 4 Montana, the Vandals are rested and ready—hosting Northern Colorado this Friday, October 11th, for Homecoming at the Kibbie Dome.
Idaho State Heads to Bozeman
The Idaho State Bengals hit the road for Bozeman this Saturday to battle fifth-ranked Montana State in a Big Sky showdown. Kickoff at one o’clock on ESPN+. The Bengals bring one of the nation’s top passing attacks behind quarterback Jordan Cooke, while the Bobcats counter with a defense ranked among the FCS elite. Idaho State’s kicker Trajan Sinatra is still perfect on the year—ten-for-ten on field goals.
