Fatal Crash Near Wendell
One person died in a four-vehicle crash that happened just after 5 p.m. yesterday on Highway 46 near Wendell. A 23-year-old Jerome man driving a Nissan Sentra died at the scene after his car was struck and pushed into oncoming traffic. A juvenile passenger was airlifted to the hospital. The highway was blocked for about five hours.
SNAP Benefits Reduced
The USDA says November SNAP benefits will drop by about 35% — not the 50% cut first expected. A court challenge forced the change. Families across Idaho relying on food assistance will still see smaller payments this month as the government adjusts funding during the ongoing shutdown dispute.
DOGE Task Force Reviews State Agencies
Idaho’s DOGE Task Force is reviewing more than 70 state agencies and commissions for possible consolidation or cuts. Lawmakers say the list is preliminary and that changes could take years.
Health Research Expansion
Three Idaho institutions are partnering to expand clinical health research statewide. Boise State, Idaho State, the University of Idaho, and the Boise VA received a five-year, $10.7 million grant. The effort aims to improve rural access and support workforce development across Idaho.
South Jerome Bridge Opens
The South Jerome Interchange project hit a major milestone as a new Lincoln Avenue bridge opened ahead of schedule. Traffic will shift off the old bridge. ITD says the new layout will improve traffic flow, and work will continue through winter as crews demolish the old bridge.
Rural Health Transformation
Governor Brad Little says Idaho has officially applied for the new Rural Health Transformation Program, seeking up to $200 million a year for five years to improve healthcare in rural communities. The funding, made available through the One Big Beautiful Bill, would support expanded access, higher quality care, and stronger health infrastructure across rural Idaho.
First-Time Homebuyers Squeezed Out
A new report from the National Association of Realtors shows first-time homebuyers are being pushed out of the market. Only 21% of buyers this year were purchasing their first home, with the median age now 40. Older buyers with cash continue to dominate.
IRS Ends Free Direct File
The IRS says its free Direct File tax system will not return next year. The program, created under the Biden administration to let Americans file taxes online for free, is being halted. Officials say private tax prep companies will handle filing instead.

High School Football Playoffs
The Idaho high school football playoffs move into the quarterfinals this week, with six Magic Valley teams still in the hunt.

Ski Season Kickoff
Ski season is almost here, and Sun Valley has announced its opening day for Thanksgiving. The resort is celebrating its 90th season with four new advanced runs and 90 acres of newly graded terrain. Sun Valley’s “Pray for Snow” party is November 15 at River Run Lodge.
Pomerelle is getting early snowfall, Magic Mountain is expanding its beginner area and tubing hill, and Soldier Mountain opens more side-country terrain this winter.
CSI Basketball Victories
At the Battle for the Boot, 17th-ranked CSI men rolled past Western Wyoming 81–62. Jalen Lyn led with 26 points, and the Golden Eagles play Clarendon tonight at 7 for a spot in the championship.
Meanwhile, the CSI women upset No. 3 Eastern Arizona 77–74 in overtime. Samara Morrow scored 22, and CSI faces Yavapai today at 4 p.m.
Boise State Volleyball
Boise State volleyball dropped its home match to Wyoming in four sets yesterday. The Broncos took the third to spark a rally, but the Cowgirls closed strong in the fourth to seal it. Arianna Bilby led Boise State with 13 kills, while Layla Smith added eight blocks. The Broncos host Colorado State Saturday at noon in Bronco Gym.
