🛑 I-84 BRIDGE STRIKE – VINYARD BRIDGE

A too-tall load hit the Vinyard Bridge on I-84 yesterday morning, the second such strike in just over a year. The bridge was set to fully reopen by month’s end, but that timeline is now uncertain.

👮‍♂️ DEPUTY GIVENS HONORED

Twin Falls County has dedicated its law enforcement complex to Deputy Henry Givens, the only county deputy ever killed in the line of duty. Givens died in 1935 after a shootout with a murder suspect.

⛽ GAS PRICES DROP

Good news at the gas pump in Idaho—AAA says the statewide average for regular is down to $3.11 a gallon, 12 cents cheaper than last week and 21 cents less than a month ago. The national average is $2.95. Idaho has slipped out of the top ten for priciest fuel, now sitting at 11th.

🩺 HEALTH EXCHANGE DEADLINE NEARS

Idahoans have one week left to pick or change health insurance plans on the state exchange before open enrollment ends December 15. But major cost hikes could be coming—without congressional action to extend enhanced tax credits, premiums on Your Health Idaho are expected to double next year, and officials warn up to 25,000 Idahoans may cancel coverage. About 87% of exchange enrollees rely on those subsidies.

🏛 IDAHO FREEDOM FOUNDATION BUDGET PUSH

The Idaho Freedom Foundation is urging lawmakers to slash nearly $1.9 billion from the state budget as Idaho faces a potential $1 billion deficit by 2027. Their proposal targets Medicaid expansion, public school funding, and other state agencies.

🚨 911 CALL LEADS TO DEPORTATION

A Nampa couple says a 911 call for help after their car caught fire ended in deportation. Police detained Karina Lozano’s boyfriend, Brian Avila, after discovering an ICE warrant she says they didn’t know existed. Lozano says Avila was deported to Honduras. The family is now seeking legal help.

💰 POWERBALL ROLLOVER

No winner in Monday’s $875 million Powerball drawing. The jackpot rolls on after the numbers 8, 32, 52, 56, 64 and Powerball 23 came up empty. It now continues its climb toward another potential billion-dollar prize.

🥪 SUMMER EBT DOUBT FOR IDAHO

Idaho may again skip the federal summer EBT program, which would provide $120 per eligible child for food next summer. Advocates say more than 100,000 Idaho kids could benefit, but the state has not opted in for 2026, leaving key nutrition support in doubt.

🔥 MURTAUGH COMEBACK WIN

It was a wild night on the hardwood as the Murtaugh Red Devils staged a thrilling comeback to beat Sun Valley Community School 52–48. Sun Valley jumped out to a quick 7–0 lead, but Murtaugh chipped away, tied things several times, and finally took over in the second half. McCoy Jensen exploded for 25 points — nearly half of Murtaugh’s total.

⛹️‍♀️ MACKAY STAYS PERFECT

In girls’ basketball, Valley had its hands full welcoming unbeaten Mackay. The Miners were in rhythm from the start, moving the ball well and hitting shots everywhere. Valley hit big buckets late, but Mackay answered each run and pulled away, winning 68–49.

🏆 SCORES AROUND THE MAGIC VALLEY

Hagerman boys beat Dietrich 49–39.
Wood River girls handled Canyon Ridge 29–17.
Dietrich girls edged Hagerman 40–39.
Richfield closed out the night with a 32–20 win over Shoshone.

Idaho’s Caleb Ricks has been named an FCS Freshman All-American. He started every game and finished with 26 tackles, six pass breakups, and an interception.

🐅 ISU MEN AT UTAH VALLEY

Idaho State men’s basketball heads to Utah Valley tomorrow for a 6 p.m. tipoff. The Bengals are 6–4 with the highest NET ranking in program history. Utah Valley brings one of the strongest combined offensive and defensive profiles in the West.
