Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred yesterday afternoon on 3700 North near 2000 East in Twin Falls County. A 19-year-old Filer woman was killed after being ejected from a Mercedes-Benz sedan. A 19-year-old male passenger suffered minor injuries. Neither were wearing seat belts.

Three people are dead after a small plane crashed into a yard near the Nampa Airport Saturday evening. The Mooney M-20 struck an unoccupied outbuilding shortly after takeoff. FAA and NTSB officials are investigating. No one on the ground was injured.

A shuttered landfill near Mountain Home has new ownership. Republic Services bought the Simco Road Regional Landfill in Elmore County for $15 million after years of lawsuits and environmental violations under its former owner. The renamed Sawtooth Regional Landfill remains closed as Republic works to bring it into compliance.

Last week, Congressman Mike Simpson advanced language in a House bill to block funding for the Lava Ridge Wind Project until a full review is completed. Simpson says the Biden administration ignored Idahoans, but President Trump’s executive order halted the project.

Idaho lawmakers are eyeing the first major state government overhaul in decades. The new DOGE Task Force met Friday to explore cutting, consolidating, or eliminating state agencies and jobs.

A federal judge has extended a block on Idaho’s new immigration law preventing the state from checking immigration status for patients in the HIV-focused Ryan White Program. The ACLU-led lawsuit argues the law denies life-saving care and violates federal protections.

Fire crews have fully contained the Summit Fire south of Oakley, which burned 826 acres after sparking Friday from lightening.  Over 60 firefighters from BLM and local agencies helped secure the fire line by Saturday.  Officials plan to downsize crews this evening as conditions remain stable.

Fire crews are battling two lightning-sparked wildfires in the Payette National Forest. The Big Bear and Rush Fires have burned over 20,000 acres combined. Crews are protecting lodges and infrastructure along the Salmon River.

SPORTS

The Twin Falls Cowboys are heading to the AA State Legion Baseball Final after a dominant 23–5 mercy-rule win over the Pocatello Runnin’ Rebels in five innings. Maddox Stadelmeir led the charge with four hits, including three doubles and five RBIs. Nolan Lehew went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Hoyt Murray drove in four with a bases-clearing triple. Cameron Reyes pitched a complete game for the Cowboys, who now face the Idaho Falls Bandits at 10 this morning. Twin Falls must win twice for their first state title since 1960—the Bandits need just one win.

Meanwhile, in the A State Tournament, the Burley Green Sox edged the Idaho Falls Grizzlies 11–10 in the semifinal. Jake Redder went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, Mack Haynes added two hits and three RBIs, and Ike Redder closed it out with a game-ending strikeout. The Green Sox face the Prairie Cardinals today at noon. A Burley win secures the title; a loss forces a winner-take-all rematch at 3 p.m.

At age 72, Kimberly’s Charles Locke is still going strong. A former military and police officer, Locke has competed across the globe in triathlons, marathons, Ironman’s—and most recently, earned multiple medals and a world record in indoor rowing at the Police and Fire World Games in Canada. After a total knee replacement sidelined his running, Locke pushed through rehab with a goal: return to the Boston Marathon. With over 400 medals, 50+ marathons, and 14 world and national records, he’s now giving back—coaching cross country at Kimberly Middle School.

The 39th annual Spudman Triathlon kicked off this weekend in Burley with crowds cheering on hundreds of athletes from across the region. Pocatello’s Adam Bailey took first overall, finishing in 1:51:59. Minidoka native Saydi Anderson led the women with a time of 2:11:54, achieving her goal of winning in front of hometown fans. Both athletes praised the community support and family-friendly atmosphere of the iconic race.

Boise hosted the Ironman 70.3 triathlon Saturday with over 2,000 athletes competing. Australia’s Sam Applegate won the men’s race in 3:40, while Canada’s Paula Findlay claimed the women’s title—her third win this season. Boise’s Danielle Lewis finished second on her home course. The event raised $32,000 for local charities.
