Your Daily Briefing – April 11, 2025

🗳 Politics & Public Policy
• U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson is co-sponsoring a bipartisan bill to block most sales of public lands managed by the Interior Department and Forest Service. The bill would require congressional approval for exceptions and is aimed at protecting Idaho’s 63% public land. Conservation groups say these lands contribute nearly $8 billion annually to the state’s economy.
• A federal judge has extended a temporary block on Idaho’s immigration law, House Bill 83. The court granted provisional class-action status, halting enforcement statewide. The ACLU of Idaho argues the law is unconstitutional; the state defends it as necessary for public safety.
• The Idaho State Controller’s Office expanded its Transparent Idaho site to include school spending and employee pay, complying with a 2021 law mandating standardized reporting.

⚖ Crime & Courts
• In Ada County, Lori Vallow Daybell’s brother testified that she conspired to kill her husband in 2019, calling her beliefs “off the wall.”
• Coeur d’Alene fallout: After a viral video showed Dr. Teresa Borrenpohl being dragged from a town hall, the city revoked the security firm’s license. Police recommend charges of battery and false imprisonment.
• In Pocatello, 17-year-old Victor Perez remains in critical condition after being shot nine times by police. Perez is autistic, non-verbal, and reportedly did not understand English. Community members are calling for better disability training for law enforcement.

• Tax Day is Monday, April 15. The Twin Falls Idaho State Tax Commission office (440 Falls Ave.) is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a drop box available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
