Your Daily Briefing – June 10, 2025

🚨 Crime & Safety

  • Hit & Run: Twin Falls Police are investigating a hit-and-run early Sunday on the 400 block of Fillmore Street. Two parked vehicles were hit. One suspect vehicle was found, and police are pursuing leads. Call (208) 735-4357 with any info.

❄ Weather & Environment

  • Snowpack Levels: Monday’s SNOTEL report shows Southern Idaho’s snowpack is mostly near normal. Big Wood is at 99%, Little Wood 76%, and Big Lost 82%. Snake River basins range from 92% to 93%. These figures compare year-to-date precipitation to the median peak.
  • Fire Update: The CINDER Fire northwest of Mountain Home burned 337 acres but was fully contained by 6 p.m. Monday and controlled by 8 p.m. Crews from the BLM, U.S. Forest Service, and Orchard Combat Training Center responded. The cause remains under investigation.

⛽ Economy & Infrastructure

  • Gas Prices: Idaho gas prices are holding steady at $3.29 per gallon—down slightly from last week and 35 cents cheaper than a year ago. AAA warns prices may rise soon as summer travel ramps up.
  • State of Emergency: Twin Falls has declared a one-week state of emergency to fast-track repairs on Blue Lakes Boulevard South after last week’s water line break. Officials say this move could shrink the timeline from months to weeks, depending on contractor availability.
  • Courthouse Renovation: Jerome County is repurposing its old courthouse jail into office space, including a new DMV, with $2.2 million in funding. Officials expect the project will ease crowding and improve accessibility, with completion later this summer.
  • Boise Housing Crisis: A LendingTree report ranks Boise as having the second-worst housing crisis outlook in the U.S., behind Portland. Boise’s low 4.56% vacancy rate and rising home value-to-income ratio signal worsening affordability, despite strong new housing permit activity.

⚕ Health & Insurance

  • Insurance Premiums: Starting July 1, Idaho state employees will see health insurance premium increases—up 8.8% for PPO and high-deductible plans, and a steep 20% for traditional plans. Dental premiums rise 2.2%. Rising healthcare and drug costs are driving the increases.

🏅 Sports

  • Baseball: The Twin Falls Cowboys AA dominated North Cache in a Monday doubleheader, while the Filer Cats and Cowboys B teams earned big wins in A and B-level play. More action continues today and Wednesday!
  • Rodeo Finals: Magic Valley riders made a strong showing at the Idaho High School Rodeo Finals in Pocatello, with several early round victories.
  • Idaho Bowl: Middle schoolers take center stage this weekend at the Idaho Bowl in Rexburg! Over 250 top sixth- to eighth-graders were selected from 1,000+ statewide submissions. Games kick off Saturday at BYU-Idaho.
  • Boise State Softball: Boise State has added two new assistant coaches—Mariah Lopez, a former national champion pitcher at Oklahoma, and Ohio State standout Tegan Cortelletti.
