🔥 Tragedy & Public Safety

  • Deadly Ambush in North Idaho: Two firefighters were killed and another injured after a gunman allegedly started a wildfire near Coeur d’Alene and ambushed first responders. The suspect was later found dead as the fire approached.
  • House Fire in Twin Falls: A home near 3400 E and Falls Avenue was completely destroyed early Saturday. No injuries were reported. Multiple agencies responded, and the cause remains under investigation.
  • Mountain Home Drowning: A man from Mountain Home Air Force Base drowned Saturday near Castle Creek Campground in the Boise National Forest. Elmore County deputies recovered his body shortly after 2 p.m.

🚨 Traffic & Crashes

  • Jerome Crash: Idaho State Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash on Highway 93 north of Jerome. A Jeep attempting to pass a semi hit it and a Volkswagen. Two drivers were hospitalized. The road was blocked for three hours.
  • Oakley Rollover: A crash on Birch Creek Road south of Oakley left two men hospitalized. Alcohol is suspected as a factor. The crash occurred just after 7 p.m. and blocked the road for about four hours.

⚖ Crime & Courts

  • Twin Falls Sexual Abuse Case: Philip Crider, 26, was sentenced to 5–10 years in prison for sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl he met while giving away kittens in the park. A rider program and $5,000 civil penalty were ordered.
  • Undocumented Aid Ban Challenged: The ACLU of Idaho is suing over a new law that limits public assistance for undocumented immigrants. The law, set to take effect July 1, could block access to life-saving HIV treatment. A federal judge is being asked to halt enforcement.

🏘 Housing & Policy

  • Affordable Housing Delays: Lawmakers met in Idaho Falls to discuss how NIMBY opposition and long permit delays are worsening the housing crisis. The Land Use and Housing Study Committee will release recommendations in 2026. More meetings are scheduled for August and September.

  • Legion Baseball – Burley Green Sox: They beat Bear River 7–2 in the Western Invitational semifinal but lost 12–2 to the Blacksmith Fork Trappers in the final. Burley A (22–4) hosts Minico A Wednesday.
  • Buhl vs. Filer: Buhl Tribe A crushed Filer 17–0 in Game 1, while Filer won Game 2, 8–3. Buhl A (3–11) hosts Jerome A today. Filer A (7–11) travels to Pocatello Wednesday.
  • Minico vs. Hillcrest: Hillcrest swept Minico B in a doubleheader. Minico B (9–3) will face Twin Falls Cowboys B Monday at 5 and 7 p.m.
  • Rodeo in Meridian: The 36th Annual Treasure Valley Rodeo wrapped up with big crowds. The Lions Club event featured new seating and bucking chutes.
  • New Boise Soccer Team: “Athletic Club Boise” will debut in USL League One in 2026. The name nods to the city’s Basque roots and international soccer flair.
  • Boise State’s Tyson Degenhart to Raptors: The top all-time scorer signed an Exhibit 10 contract and will compete in the NBA Summer League July 10–20 in Vegas.
  • UNLV-Idaho State Football Moved: The game shifts to August 23 to accommodate the Canelo Álvarez–Terence Crawford boxing match. NCAA approved the Week Zero change.
